Das Wichtigste in Kürze
Zen Sounds braucht kein Konto.
Keine Weitergabe, kein Tracking

Privacy Policy for the Zen Sounds app
Last updated: October 2026
Controller: Zenbox GmbH, Brucknerstraße 40, 70195 Stuttgart, Germany. Email: konstantin@thezenbox.de
In short: Zen Sounds needs no account. It has no ads, no tracking or analytics tools and no third party code that collects data. We run no server for the app and receive no personal data from you through it. The music is made on your device. Only if you turn on weather does your approximate location go to a weather service.
On your device: your settings and your answers from the start (for example what you use Zen Sounds for and whether you are an early bird or a night owl), your mixes, focus times, rounds and streak, your daily goal, your answers to the question after a focus round, the listening history for "For you now", the last weather values (without location, for at most three hours) and, if you use it, your choice for blocking apps. This data lives in the app and in a storage area on the device that only Zen Sounds and its own extensions (widgets, Live Activity) can read. It stays on your device, except through the features below that you control. We have no access to it.
"For you now": to suggest what fits right now, the app notes on your device which sounds you skip in the first seconds, listen to for long, keep with a heart or choose as your focus sound, with the time of day and area. Entries lose weight over time (half after 14 days) and are deleted after 110 days at the latest. You can switch this off and reset the history in Customize. It never leaves your device.
Weather: off until you turn it on. Then iOS asks for your location, only while using the app and only approximately. Zen Sounds rounds the coordinates to two decimals (about one kilometre) and requests the local weather so the music can match it: when you turn it on, then about every 30 minutes while something plays or the "Sound that adapts" page is open, also on Apple TV. The request goes directly from your device to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway, Henrik Mohns plass 1, 0313 Oslo, Norway) or, in versions with Apple Weather (WeatherKit), to Apple. Your IP address is transmitted technically. According to MET Norway, it keeps IP addresses in logs to detect misuse and keep the service running, for up to 90 days (MET Norway privacy). Norway is part of the European Economic Area, where the GDPR applies. For Apple Weather, Apple's privacy policy applies. Zen Sounds does not store your location; it stays in memory for the request only, and we never receive it. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw anytime by turning weather off in the app or removing location access in iOS Settings.
Apple Health and heart rate: off until you turn it on. With your permission, Zen Sounds reads your heart rate from Apple Health on iPhone while a sound plays, so the tempo of the music follows gently. The iPhone app writes nothing to Apple Health. If you turn on "Share heart rate" on Apple Watch, the watch runs a mindfulness session during playback so it measures your pulse, and sends it to your iPhone at most every five seconds. The session is discarded and not saved as a workout. Heart rate values are used in memory only and dropped after ten minutes at the latest. They never leave your devices.
Motion and AirPods: if you turn it on, the music follows your walking pace, using steps per minute from your iPhone's motion sensor. With AirPods you can also turn on head gestures (nod keeps the mix, shake makes a new one), using your AirPods' head motion. Both are processed live on the device, nothing is stored.
Create a sound: the microphone only runs when you tap it. Your speech is turned into text on your device and is neither stored nor sent; if the language pack is missing, iOS downloads it once from Apple. On supported devices, Apple Intelligence picks the matching sounds from your words with a language model that runs on your device; your words do not leave it. Only the mix is stored, when you keep it with the heart in "My mixes".
Blocking apps with Screen Time: if your version of the app has this feature, Zen Sounds can block distracting apps and websites during a focus session, using Apple's Screen Time interfaces. The app asks for permission only when you set it up. You choose apps in Apple's own picker; Zen Sounds only receives identifiers from Apple that do not reveal app names, and only shows counts. Websites you type in are stored as addresses. Your lists and choices stay on the device. Blocking only happens during a session you start and ends with it.
Zenbox: if you also use the Zenbox app, you can link a focus session to a Zenbox block list. Zen Sounds then reads, on your device, the names, symbols and counts of your Zenbox block lists and your Zenbox start and end settings from a storage area shared by both apps. To start, Zen Sounds opens the Zenbox app with the chosen list, the duration and a random request identifier; Zenbox does the blocking. No app identifiers and no personal data are transferred, and nothing leaves your device. The Zenbox app has its own privacy policy.
Apple Watch, widgets, Siri, Spotlight and CarPlay: iPhone and Apple Watch exchange what is playing, your mixes and your focus session over the direct connection between your devices. Widgets, the Live Activity, Control Center, Shortcuts and Spotlight read the data on your device; Spotlight uses an index on the device. When you talk to Siri, Apple processes your request under Apple's privacy policy. If your version supports CarPlay, Zen Sounds shows its sounds on your car's display through iOS. No data is sent to us.
Notifications: reminders are local notifications scheduled by your device: the end of a focus round, your daily reminder and, if you choose the trial, a note two days before it ends. There are no server push notifications.
Purchases: purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple's App Store. We receive neither your name nor your payment details. The app checks on the device with StoreKit whether a purchase exists. Apple gives us summarized sales reports that do not identify you. Apple's terms and privacy policy apply.
Statistics from Apple: if you allowed sharing analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple gives us summarized usage numbers and crash reports. Apple collects them, not the app, and they do not identify you. You can change this anytime in Settings under Privacy and Security.
Email: in Customize you can send us ideas and bugs by email. The app opens your mail app and fills in the subject, app version, system version and device model; you see everything before you send. If you write to us, we process your message and email address to reply (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR) and delete them when no longer needed, unless the law requires us to keep them.
No sharing, no tracking: no ads, no analytics or crash tools, no third party code that collects data. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites and build no profile about you. We share no data because we receive none.
Retention and deletion: data on your device stays until you delete it. Reset the "For you now" history in Customize. Deleting the app removes all its data from that device.
Your rights: you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR) and to withdraw consent at any time for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR). Contact us at the address above. As we receive no personal data through the app, we usually hold none about you except your emails to us. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information Baden-Württemberg.
Changes: if something in the app changes that affects privacy, we update this policy. The version published here applies.
Health note: Zen Sounds is a wellness app and not a medical device. It does not diagnose and does not replace medical advice or treatment.
